Access to Music Foundation

Our 2011 charity gala and auction went off without a hitch!

We raised over $20,000 to continue our charitable initiatives and do good things in the community to promote music education, so thank you all donors, attendees, bidders and of course, our sponsors. A big thank-you goes out to the Westin Bayshore Hotel in Vancouver, where the event took place. We highly recommend them for excellent events, especially their unbelievable banquet management staff. SW Audio + Visual also stepped up and donated all the A/V equipment for the night. Without this HUGE contribution the event would not have been able to go ahead and so we thank them for their gracious gift. A big thanks also to Tina Simpkin of Gibson and Epiphone Guitars, who pulled a ton of strings to get us some awesome auction items. Mimi Northcott and Mike Fraser also pulled through in a big way for us, both contributing auction items, attending the event and taking home some of our top prizes.

Congratulations to our host Grant Lawrence of CBC Radio 3, who won the 2011 team autographed Canucks hockey stick in the heads or tail draw. It might have seem rigged but honestly, it was sheer luck! A big thanks to our wonderful student performers including Adrian Bronson, Michael Fabro, Kellan Roman-Barnes, Jonah, Howard Chang and Peter Zaenker.

Our radio partners Shore 104.3 FM was well represented at the event, with executive director Sherri Pierce getting up to pull the winning 50/50 ticket, which drumroll… went to James Sutton of 100.5 the Peak FM! How’s that for serendipity? (He very generously donated his winnings back to Music BC Charitable Foundation).

A big thanks also to our flower sponsor, Amoda Flowers, who made our event beautiful. She is currently running a new client incentive for all Music BC friends- 50% off flowers for your next corporate event for the month of June. Contact for details.

Facebox Media was also our photobooth sponsor and took some great candid photos of our staff and guests. Check out the photos here:

On Saturday, May 21st, the Shore 104.3 FM team and Music BC Charitable Foundation teamed up to present the Oppenheimer Park music group with a bunch of new instruments and amps. I highly recommend going down to Oppenheimer Park on a sunny Saturday to check it out. Their jam group is open to anyone who wants to contribute and they now have enough instruments for a healthy sized group to rock out! 🙂

Looking to the future, we have a benefit concert coming up with WATASUN, Incognito and Double Smoked at the Yale Hotel on June 9th. That’s a Thursday night, but don’t worry–no Canucks game!

Watasun is currently in the Top 20 of Shore 104.3 FM’s Song Search contest and believe me, they are worth checking out.

Here is their winning video “It’s You”:

When: Thursday, June 9th at 7 pm (music starts at 8 pm)
Where: Yale Hotel 1300 Granville St.
How much: $14

See you there!
