About the award
The award’s title is taken from a quote by internationally renowned music educator, Dr. Shinichi Suzuki
“Teaching music is not my main purpose. I want to make good citizens. If children hear fine music from the day of their birth and learn to play it, they develop sensitivity, discipline and endurance. They get a beautiful heart.”
The award is specially designed and crafted by Haida silver artist, Gregory Williams –kaajuu gaaya. The profiles of eagle and raven form the top of the heart while the plumage gracefully falls downward shaping the heart bottom and point. It is mounted on indigenous Haida yew wood.
