DUNCAN MCPHEE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
(c) McPhee Family
In 2008, the family of Duncan McPhee received a devastating phone call. Their 22-year-old son had passed away, unexpectedly, in his sleep, from a previously undetected congenital heart defect.
The McPhees have always been a music-loving family. Both parents are accomplished musicians who share their passion for playing music with their family and friends. Duncan was a phenomenal guitar player who encouraged other young people to express themselves through music. Each year, in celebration of his life, the McPhees have hosted an annual benefit concert in Duncan’s honour. We are honoured that the family has chosen to administer the new Duncan McPhee Memorial Scholarship through Access to Music Foundation.
Each year, one talented and hard-working music student within BC will be awarded a scholarship to continue their music education. This year’s inaugural recipient is Devin Webber of North Vancouver, who plans to study guitar and voice through a private music teacher.
The Duncan McPhee Memorial Scholarship will be administered through the Access to Music Scholarship Trust, which administers several named scholarships that are awarded annually to exceptionally gifted young artists pursuing advanced instruction in music performance.
